Manchester United has announced the dates and venues for their 2010 US summer tour. The highlight will be facing the MLS All Star team July 28th in Houston. They will open the tour in Toronto against Scottish giants Celtic on July 16th. After the Celtic match Manchester United will head into the US to face their first MLS opposition ever.
On July 21st they will face the expansion Philadelphia Union at Lincoln Financial Field and then head to Kansas City to face the Wizards at Arrowhead Stadium. Finally, United will be off to Houston to face the MLS All Stars.
“It’s a very special moment for [the Houston Dynamo] and Major League Soccer to have a franchise like Manchester United,” said Dynamo President Oliver Luck. “It doesn’t get any better.”
It is yet to be seen what effects the World Cup will have on the squad Manchester United brings to the US for the summer tour. Most of the squad will be taking part in South Africa.
“It’s great to be going back to North America,” Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said. “I enjoyed the last two tours there in 2003 and 2004 immensely. The quality of the facilities is outstanding and there is real enthusiasm in the crowds. It’s especially pleasing to be going in a World Cup year, when interest in football will be at its height.”
