Manchester United eased past Arsenal 1-0 Wednesday in the first leg of their Champions League matchup at Old Trafford thanks to a first half John O'Shea goal. Manchester United came out flying putting immense early pressure on Arsenal and keeper Almunia. Despite several world class Almunia saves, Manchester United broke through in the 19th minute when John O'Shea found himself free at the back post. He rifled a volley past Almunia and into the roof of the net for he lead.
Arsenal began to fight back and even out the game after giving up the goal, but they rarely threatened the Manchester United net. Ryan Giggs looked to have doubled the lead, but it was ruled offside in a questionable call. Cristiano Ronaldo crushed a shot from distance that rattled the woodwork later on. The two teams will meet in the second leg next week with all to play for. Arsenal clearly feels ok being only a goal down heading home.
