Manchester United once again showed they are the choice to take the English Premier League title as they dispatched last place West Brom 5-0. Cristiano Ronaldo notched two of the goals in the easy win. Meanwhile, Chelsea moved past Liverpool and into 2nd place following their 2-0 win over Middlesbrough. Liverpool suffered a draw at Wigan after a Mido 81st minute penalty conversion. Both Liverpool and Chelsea are on 48 points with Chelsea ahead on goal difference setting up the monster showdown this Sunday at Liverpool.
Aston Villa cemented their 4th place position after a solid 1-0 road win at strugglers Portsmouth. Villa is 5 points above Arsenal for the coveted Champions League spot. Arsenal fell further out of the top 4 as they drew 1-1 at Everton. Barely draw they did as it took an injury-time Robin van Persie goal to tie the match and deny Everton a good win. The result kept Everton 5 points behind Arsenal in 6th place.
The other battle is at the bottom of the table where a whopping 8 teams wit within 3 points of the bottom. The pressure will be immense as the teams fight to stay out of relegation. Tottenham was the big mover in the bottom 8 as they were the only 1 to grab 3 points thanks to a 3-1 win over fellow bottom side Stoke City.
Looking forward to the weekend and week 24 the Chelsea-Liverpool match looms large. The loser will suffer a huge hit in their chances to catch Manchester United at the top of the table. The winner will be the title contender. Another big match shows Everton visiting Manchester United.
