Manchester City rolls on at Dallas Cup

Robbie Mak of Manchester City stole the show Wednesday afternoon in day 3 of Super Group play at Dallas Cup XXX.  Mak notched a pair of goals and did all the work setting up another in impressive fashion to help Manchester City take Group A with a 4-0 win over Toronto FC.

Things started quietly for Manchester City on Wednesday as Toronto FC came out to an impressive start and asked Man City's keeper to make a couple of impressive early saves to keep the match level.  After about 20 minutes though the class of Manchester City began to show as slowly they begand to push Toronto deeper and deeper into their own end.  In the 25th minute #7 Robbie Mak got loose down the left side.  He cut into the box and curled a nice right footed shot around the keeper and into the far corner for the 1-0 lead.

The 2nd half became the Robbie Mak show as his pace began to wear out the Toronto defenders.  The 2nd City goal was almost exactly identical to the first half goal.  Mak speeding down the left.....cut inside the box on his right foot....but this time instead of knocking it home himself, Mak slid the ball square to the onrushing Alex Nimely to slot into the empty net.   A few minutes later would be his best run of the half as he sped down the left side leaving a defender in the dust once again.  This time Mak beat the central defender and rounded the keeper as well before being knocked off the ball at the last moment.

Mak took a knock on the play and had to leave the match for a couple of minutes to receive treatment.  He limped back on and within a minute took a pass in the center of the field, raced around a defender and fired the ball into the net from the top of the 18.  He immediately called to the bench for a substitute and went off the field to the applause of the appreciative crowd.

Man City's Nimely would add a fourth later in the half and win the group on a perfect 9 points from their three games.  They'll await their opponents in Friday's semifinal round.  Both Sao Paolo of Brazil and Entracht Frankfurt of Germany have looked very impressive thus far and one of the two should be Manchester City's Friday opponent.
