It was business as usual for Manchester United as they extended their long unbeaten streak at Old Trafford. Their relentless pressure finally wore down a game Tottenham squad playing their first EPL game of the season after having their opener canceled by the London rioting. The Spurs hung tough with American Brad Friedel standing tall between the pipes sending the game scoreless to halftime.
But like so many times last year, Manchester United found the way to win in the second half. Tottenham opened the second half on the front foot, but after a few minutes ManU took control. And complete control it was. It was pretty much one way traffic the final 40 minutes as the home side attacked in waves.
The opener came from a perfect one time cross from Tom Cleverly as he put the ball into the Tottenham area where Danny Welbeck rose to head home. It was to get worse from there as United streamed forward. They were worthy of their second, which came thanks to a brilliant piece of skill from Welbeck, who returned Anderson's pass with an impudent back heel that the Brazilian coolly finished into the bottom corner. The final insult came in the dying minutes when Wayne Rooney easily finished a header fro close range.
The win leaves Manchester United on a perfect six points from two matches atop the standings with rivals Manchester City and surprising Wolves.
