The chase looks to be on for the services of Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric. Specualtion has been rampant for months over his future and earlier this week Chelsea fired the first salvo with a reported bid of £22 million.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has repeatedly stated Luka Modric is not for sale at any price and it took Spurs less than two hours to reject the Chelsea bid. Look for Chelsea to return with a higher bid since they were priced out of purchasing Brazilian Neymar.
"Luka is not for sale," Redknapp said. "If there has been a bid of £22 million that is ridiculous. There are people being sold for £20 million who are not fit to lace Luka's boots.''
Now powerful Manchester United are considering entering the bidding war for the young Croatian midfielder. It seems they feel Luka would be a perfect replacement for the recently retired Paul Scholes. Nikky Vuksan, Modric's representative, said that they would consider an offer from the Red Devils, but only with Tottenham's approval.
"If that was the Spurs position then we would be happy to sit with the club and discuss for the future," Vuksan told The Guardian. "He's happy at Spurs. Any offer that comes for him, it's up to the decision of Tottenham Hotspur if they want to reject it or accept it.
Manchester City is also rumoured to about to jump in as well. If that becomes the case look out as the bidding war would likely reach astronomical levels. It's clear that all three major sides feel Luka Modric could be the midfield piece that takes them to Champions League glory next year.
