The confidence is returning for Liverpool. After a disastrous start to the season which saw them all the way down in the relegation zone, the team is pulling together and stringing together a run of quality results. The latest victim were Aston Villa who are themselves in a rut.
The game was almost over from the opening whistle. Aston Villa never had a pep in their step as Liverpool ran circles around them. Even without Gerrard, Carragher and Torres Liverpool were still highly superior and the score could have been worse.
A brave header from David Ngog got Liverpool on their way in the 14th minute. Just two minutes later it was 2-0 as Ryan Babel finished a move that looked to be offside. The result was never in doubt from there. Maxi Rodriguez added the third early in the second half and Liverpool cruised to an easy win.
The win moves Liverpool all the way up to 8th place in the EPL standings and not too far out of range of a top 4 spot. With all the points being dropped at the top anything is possible with over half the season remaining. On the other end, Aston Villa are flirting with the relegation zone and in real trouble.
