The drama continues to build at Anfield as the problems continue to mount for Liverpool. Forget the fact that the team is struggling mightily on the field. They currently sit 18th out of 20 teams in the EPL and have crashed out of the Carling Cup as well. Grumblings from players and fans are commonplace daily.
The complicated sale of the club is at odds now. Hated American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are trying to put up a fight to maintain control as the fans, creditors and a prospective new ownership group attempts to wrest control away.
The matter is heading to court as all involved hope to beat the October 15th deadline when Royal Bank of Scotland plan to call a massive load of Liverpool debt due. Hicks and Gillett are plotting their own sale of the club to give them back their $200+ million investment and are wanting the courts to block the takeover. If the debt is called, Liverpool could face a nine point EPL penalty if the Bank of Scotland takes control.
The Liverpool board went over the owners heads in arranging the proposed sale of the club to the Boston Red Sox ownership group John W. Henry's New England Sports Ventures. If the sale is allowed to go through Hicks & Gillette stand to lose almost their entire investment in Liverpool. Expect everything to be played out in the courts next week.
