Liverpool signaled they are in the EPL title race for the longrun as they rode a late pair of Fernando Torres goals to a 2-0 win over a 10-man Chelsea squad at Anfield. There was plenty of drama and the EPL titlechase on the line as Liverpool grabbed the vital three points. Cheslea were left steaming though about the red card given to Frank Lampard in the 60th minute that put Chelsea under immense pressure for the last half hour of the match.
Chelsea were already on their heels before the Lampard sending off, but things just worsened from there. It looked like they might be able to survive and earn a draw until the last minutes of the match. With only 2 minutes in regular time Fabio Aurelio curled a near post cross in from the left side that found Torres running for a glancing header that beat Petr Cech near post for the winner.
The Anfield side went wild as Liverpool looked to have the important win in hand. Only minutes later Torres would pounce on a loose ball at the top of the 18 and slot home the second goal. The win moves Liverpool to within two points of frontrunners Manchester United who defeated Everton on Saturday. Manchester United has a game in hand as well.
