It was supposed to be a Liverpool win. A trip to strugglers Middlesbrough who hadn't even been able to muster a single goal in their last 5 English Premier League matches. Instead, Liverpool's EPL title hopes were dashed as they fell 2-0. To top it off captain Steven Gerrard went out during the match to injury.
The Middlesbrough back line stood strong and Manchester United are even stronger holders of the EPL title chase now. An own goal on a failed clearance gave Middlesbrough the hope they needed in the match and a wonderful goal from Tuncay sealed Liverpool's fate. Chelsea took advantage of the slipup and rode a stoppage time winner from Frank Lampard into a 2nd place tie with Liverpool in the standings. Meanwhile, Everton looks in command of a UEFA Cup spot as they handled West Brom 2-0 on the day.
