Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners over rivals Everton in a game heavily influenced by a first half red card to Everton's Jack Rodwell. The match was fast and furious from the opening whistle as the hated rivals squared off Saturday morning. After an opening of hard tackles and break-neck attacks the match was turned on its head by a questionable red card to Everton's Jack Rodwell.
On the play in question, Rodwell tackled in against Liverpool's Charlie Adam who went down in a heap. Rodwell clearly got the ball and the contact was less than harsh. The referee produced a red card to the dismay of the Everton bunch and they were forced to play an hour on ten men.
Everton coach Moyes was less than happy about the sending off. He said: "I thought it ruined the game. There are alot of questions that people ask about derbies, tackles and sendings off but that wasn't down to a bad tackle."
Liverpool took advantage of their numbers and took the game at Everton. Tim Howard worked his magic in the Everton goal making huge saves and also turning away a penalty kick from Dirk Kuyt. He couldn't withstand the barrage though and Liverpool eventually broke through via Andy Carrroll.
The Newcastle signing from last year has been less than impressive in a Liverpool jersey, but today was to be his day as he powered home a goal after a Luis Enrique cross. The game was put away late on as Luis Suarez scored and Liverpool had their derby win. The three points move Liverpool up to 5th in the EPL standings.
