Leeds United pulled one of the bigger FA Cup upsets of all time Sunday as they went to Old Trafford and beat Manchester United 1-0 on a first half goal from Jermaine Beckford. Leeds United used to be on eof the big boys in England, but has fallen on hard times the last five years falling all the way down into League 1 (third division).
This year the club has seen a revivial. They are on top in League 1 and looking to move back up to the Coca Cola Championship (division 2) and pulled the shock win at Old Trafford today. Leeds were primed and ready from the start and they were pushed on by over 9000 supporters who made the trip. Young Jermaine Beckford gives them a legitimate threat against even a squad so daunting as Man U.
It was Beckford that made the breakthrough in 19th minute of play when he chased down a Jonathan Howson longball and nipped it from Wes Brown. Man U keeper Tomasz Kuszczak was slow to react and Leeds had their precious goal.
Leeds had some touchy moments the rest of the night, but not even Wayne Rooney or Dimitar Berbatov nor Michael Owen were to be able to break the Leeds resolve. Five minutes of stoppage time frayed the nerves, but it was to be Leeds United day.
