The champions of Europe are falling fast as the last half of 2010 can be termed nothing short of a nightmare. The bad dream continued Sunday as Inter Milan fell at Chievo. The rain fell, the turf was terrible and the Inter performance was not much better. How much longer can Rafa Benitez keep his job as the Italian giants fall further as the team falls out of centention in Serie A?
There is no confidence in Inter's steps. A first half goal from Chievo's Sergio Pelissier established an upset was in the cards. Inter Milan's response was poor as instead of pushing to get the match even at halftime they resorted to some playground tactics. Samuel Eto'o should have been sent off for his headbutt straight into the chest of a Chievo defender. Luckily neither the center referee or linesman saw the incident. Expect Eto'o to receive a suspension though as the television cameras caught it clearly.
The second half saw much of the same as when Inter were able to navigate the poor pitch their final effort on goal was lacking. A Davide Moscardelli goal in the 82nd minute looked to have settled things as Chievo were leaders 2-0. In the final minute a wonderful solo effort from Samuel Eto'o clawed one back, but that was to be all as the match ended 2-1 to Chievo.
Despite having the full backing from Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti one has to wonder if this poor effort might just swing things the other was as fans will be enraged with the result. If Rafa Benitez does survive he will have to get a result in the Champions League on Wednesday against a tricky FC Twente side from Holland.
