Widely considered to be the best nation to have never won a World Cup, Holland have earned another shot. It will be an all European final on Sunday as Holland knocked off valiant Uruguay 3-2 in South Africa.
It was a very even match for 60 minutes as Uruguay stood right up to the Europeans. The first half was marked by two longrange strikes. Giovanni Van Bronckhorst put Holland in front in the 18th minute with a masterful shot from the left. He ripped a ball that found the very top backpost corner leaving Muslera no chance at all. Diego Forlan would answer just before halftime as his shot took a slight deflection and whipped past Stekelenburg who might should have done better.
The game was even until the 60th minute when a long period of Dutch attack seemed to signal what was to come. Ten minutes later Holland would have their lead as Wesley Sneijder shot from just inside the penalty area trickled through bodies and into the net. There were questions of offside as Robin van Persie was involved. Only a couple of minutes later the lead was 3-1 as Arjen Robben scored a perfect header.
Holland were on their way to the final. Credit to Uruguay who pulled one back in injury time through Maxi Pereira, but the rally was not to be. Holland can win their first World Cup on Sunday and await the winner of tomorrow's Spain-Germany clash.
