The Los Angeles Galaxy opened the MLS season on a monster tear going unbeaten in their first 12 matches and running out to a big lead atop the Western Conference standings. The lead was so big most people did not think they could be caught. My how the times have changed. Since July 4th the Galaxy is 2-3-1 in MLS play and crashed out of the CONCACAF Champions League to Puerto Rico.
The latest setback came on Sunday afternoon as LA dropped a 1-0 decision to San Jose as usually solid goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts gift wrapped the goal for SJ. The once air-tight Galaxy defense is leaking goals lately as they have allowed 17 goals in their last 9 games. Their once monster lead in the Western Conference is dwindling fast as red hot Real Salt and FC Dallas are reeling them in. RSL is only 4 points behind while FC Dallas is 7 back with a game in hand.
The Galaxy will try to get back on the right foot next Saturday evening as they host Kansas City at the Home Depot Center.

It went exactly as expected. Playing at their home field where they had not lost all season, the LA Galaxy beat a feisty Houston Dynamo squad 1-0 to take the 2011 MLS Cup.
