Both France and Sweden had work to do going into the final game of Euro 2012 qualifying on Tuesday. Sweden needed a result over previously unbeaten Netherlands while France had to have a result in Paris against Bosnia. Both sides came through and earned berths at next summer's Euro 2012.
Sweden had a tall order. Beat the powerful Dutch. Two things were working in the Swedes favor. Firstly they were at home and secondly Holland had already secured passage as group winners. Sweden jumped out to a quick lead through Kim Kallstrom to the delight of the home crowd. The Netherlands would answer back in a big way grabbing goals on either side of halftime to take a 2-1 lead. Sweden would completely flip the script though and turn the match on its head with a pair of goals within a minute.
A handball in the Holland area led to a Sebastian Larrson penalty kick to draw the game level at 2. Just seconds after the restart Sweden had the lead back when Oli Toivonen smashed home from just inside the box. Despite pressure, Sweden were able to see the match out and claim a spot at Euro 2012.
France had to have at least a point in Paris against a tough squad from Bosnia. Things were looking bad as Edin Dzeko put the visitors on top with a 40th minute goal. The game would drag into the second half with all the pressure on France. Bosnia were hanging by a thread as the home side heaped on the attack.
Finally in the 78th minute France were rewarded for their hard work as Samir Nasri earned a penalty kick. He fired home the spotkick and France saw out the 1-1 draw. France wins the group and a berth at Euro 2012 while Bosnia go into the playoff draw.
