The US slipped to another 1-0 loss this afternoon in Paris against a strong France side that hadn't been beaten in 15 straight. Well make that 16 now.
The goals still won't come for the Americans. Sure Clint Dempsey worked his rear off as usual and Jozy Altidore looked solid holding onto the ball up top, but that was about it going forward. Young Brek Shea failed to make an impact on the wing. The Americans have scored a whopping two goals in their 6 matches under Klinsmann.
Maybe it is time to say we should be playing a different formation than the 4-5-1? Chances have been few and far between in this formation for the US and between Dempsey or Agudelo we seem to have options for a second striker. When your best player match after match is your goalkjeeper maybe something needs to change. Just saying......
Anyway, it was a tall task for the Americans to be expected to go into Paris and beat France, but at some point we have to start having higher expectations if the US is going to take a step into the top 15 world soccer sides. The defense was stout in the opening 45 minutes as France really only generated one good scoring chance. The Americans didn't do much at the other end besides earning a couple of corner kicks.
France came out after the break with a different attitude though and really took the game at the visitors. Chances were coming fast and furious, but stud American keeper Tim Howard was up to the task. Finally France got their breakthrough and it came at the hands of Clarence Goodson. The tall centerback was beaten by strength and speed as Loic Remy held off Goodson before firing past a helpless Howard.
Klinsmann sent on Edson Buddle adding a second forward, but a goal was not in the cards. France 1 USA 0. Next up for the Americans is a match at Slovenia next week.

The US women have their new star. First there was Mia Hamm. Then there was Abby Wambach. It looks like young Alex Morgan is the next in line of the great American womens goal scorer.
