Five MLS sides have gotten the 2012 MLS season off to great starts by winning their opening two matches. No surprise that Real Salt Lake is sitting there with two wins. They are considered one of the clear favorites this season and with impressive wins over the LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls they have done nothing to hurt that status.
RSL opened the season with an emphatic 3-1 win at the defending champions Galaxy and then followed it up with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over the reeling New York Red Bull. Fabian Espindola has scored in both matches to lead the attack.
Of much more surprise is the start of the Vancouver Whitecaps. Granted they have opened with a win over expansion Montreal and then a win over perennial strugglers Chivas USA, but Whitecap fans will not take wins for granted after last year. Most impressive has been the defense who have yet to concede.
The Houston Dynamo are also 2-0 and look to be on track for another very solid season. They'll also benefit greatly from playing in the MLS Eastern Conference which looks to be weaker than ever with only Sporting Kansas City appearing to pose a threat. The Dynamo have been west coast road warriors winning late 1-0 at Chivas USA and then 1-0 at San Jose.
Colorado is looking stout after they beat the Philadelphia Union 2-1 to stay perfect on the young season. The Rapids look to have a potent offense this season led by Omar Cummings. The Rapids have found the net twice in both wins.
The final perfect team through two matched is Sporting Kansas City, who are also a title threat this year. They have been dominant in their two wins but they have been against weak Eastern Conference foes DC United and New England Revolution. They'll get a stiffer test next weekend as FC Dallas comes calling.
