Only two of the nine European World Cup qualifying groups were undecided heading into the final day of qualifying Wednesday. Switzerland and Slovakia grabbed the two spots heading to South Africa 2010.
Switzerland eaked out a scoreless draw at home to Israel to win Group 2 by a single point over Greece who defeated Luxembourg. There were some nervous moments at the end as the Swiss realized giving up a late goal would see them lose the group. Greece will advance to the playoff round for a World Cup berth.
Slovakia took care of business as they won a tough 1-0 match in Poland to stay two points clear of Slovenia who beat San Marino. Slovakia takes the Group 3 title and automatic berth while Slovenia will go into the playoff round.
The eight playoff qualifiers are: Portugal, Greece, Slovenia, Russia, Bosnia, Ukraine, France and Ireland.
