Brazil moved to the top of the latest FIFA world soccer rankings overtaking Spain thanks to their Confederations Cup title. Spain fell to #2. It marks the 6th time Brazil have held the #1 overall ranking. Rounding out the top 5 are Holland sitting 3rd, Italy 4th and Germany 5th. It was surprising Italy did not fall further after a lackluster Confederations Cup performance in which their only win was a match where they had to rally to defeat a 10 man US side.
Interestingly, Russia overtook England for the 6th spot despite England not having lost a match in World Cup qualifying. Argentina fell to 8th with France 9th and Croatia 10th. The United States jumped up to 12th after their stunning Confederations Cup run.
Portugal continued its freefall dropping all the way to 17th as they look to miss out on next summer's World Cup. Meanwhile, Australia and Ivory Coast made big jumps as they surged ahead in their qualifying endeavors.
