FC Dallas played giant killer once again. Last weekend they took out the defending MLS champions Real Salt Lake. This weekend they went to Los Angeles and crushed the Galaxy 3-0 at Home Depot Center. Next up is a meeting with the Colorado Rapids in the MLS Cup next weekend in Toronto.
It was a thoroughly deserved victory in LA. FC Dallas came out strong. Weathered a bit of a storm and then struck with a classic David Ferreira goal. In the 25th minute, Ferreira received a ball at the top of the LA penalty area and turned to his right before firing a perfectly place shot into the lower corner of the net.
It was a real shocker as the Galaxy had been pushing hard for the previous ten minutes. The rest of the half was pretty quiet as the FC Dallas midfield did a wonderful job of keeping David Beckham and Landon Donovan in check.
Everyone expected the Galaxy to come out firing in the second half, but it just never happened. Instead FC Dallas were strong in defense and were able to win most of the 50/50s in the midfield. In the 54th minute FC Dallas had a two goal lead as a low cross from Brek Shea was knocked home by George John. That was pretty much the end of it as Los Angeles were never able to penetrate the Dallas defense.
In the 72nd things went from bad to worse as Marvin Chavez got in behind the Galaxy backline receiving a perfect pass from Ferreira and slotted home despite Galaxy protests for offside. The play looked good even though Beckham received a yellow card for his protests. From there it was just a matter of seeing the match out. FC Dallas did so with ease and they'll make their first ever MLS Cup appearance next weekend in Toronto.
