Everton took advantage of Hull's poor defense and made easy work notching 5 goals as Mikael Arteta had 2 and Landon Donovan had a goal and an assist. It took a few minutes for the goals to start coming, but once they did they came in a bunch as Everton move 8th in the English Premier League standings.
Mikael Arteta dominated the opening 60 minutes of play as Hull could not contain the in form attacker. Arteta opened the scoring in the 17th minute and it looked like Everton were to double their lead after Yakubu drew a penalty kick later in the first half. Boaz Myhill was up to the task though as he saved the Yakubu penalty to keep Hull in the game.
Hull would draw even in the 32nd when Tom Cairney scored off a set peice, but Everton grabbed the halftime lead as Arteta notched his 2nd goal on the afternoon. The second half would be all Everton as Hull were on the back foot right from the opening whistle. Immense pressure was rewarded with an own goal in the 51st as Arteta's cross was bumbled into the Hull net. The whoopin was on from that point.
Local hero, American Landon Donovan entered the match and made an immediate impact to the delight of the Everton crowd. Donovan rifled home a perfect shot from a Baines cross to make it 4-1. Landon Donovan then provided the assist on the 5th goal as he set up Jack Rodwell amid chants of "USA USA" and "sign him up, sign him up". Landon is expected to return the the US to open MLS play after next weekend.
