The best team throughout the Euro 2008 claimed the championship on Sunday as Spain defeated Germany 1-0. Spain were not only the better team on the day, but pretty much the top squad from day 1 as they cruised through the 2008 European Championships allowing not a single goal after the group stages.
Fernando Torres struck the only goal of the game as Spain ended their 44 yr wait for a major international trophy by beating Germany in the Euro 2008 final in Vienna. The Liverpool striker netted the clincher in the 33rd minute, doing superbly to pick up a Xavi through-ball. Torres skipped past the weak challenge of Philipp Lahm before flicking his shot over the onrushing Jens Lehmann and into the far corner of the net.

Torres had earlier seen a header clang off the woodwork as dominant Spain finally banished their reputation of underachieving on the big stage by winning their first major trophy since Euro 1964.
Just shy of his 70th birthday, Spain coach Luis Aragones will now leave his post as coach, probably for Fenerbahce, as a champion. Vicente del Bosque has been tipped to take over and he will inherit a young squad who have their sights on the World Cup.
