EPL Transfer Activity Heating Up

EPL Transfer Activity Heating Up

The EPL January transfer window is open and very active in the English Premier League.  Questions and rumors abound.  What splash will the giants Arsenal and Chelsea make?  How much will Man City spend and will it produce better results than their summer spending?  Will the relegation fighters grab any help?

The big news so far is Chelsea's Wayne Bridge moving to Manchester City for a pretty chunk of change.  Bridge is expected to be the first of a few signings meant to rescue the big spenders from the relegation zone.  Wayne Bridge is expected to help boslter a City defense that has leaked goals this season so far.  Manager Mark Hughes is hoping fro a total of 5 signings before the EPL transfer window closes.

Manchester United grabbed a pair of highly regarded Serbians in Zoran Tosic and Adem Ljajic from Partizan Belgrade.  The pair are expected to be United's only moves in the transfer window.  The moves have been in the works for a couple of months and come as no surprise to Man U followers.  Meanwhile, Carlos Tevez is saying he is happy at Old Trafford and that reports of his rejecting a contract offer are false.

Stuart Downing of Middlesbrough is expected to request a transfer from the club on Monday.  Tottenham look to be the main suitors, but the two sides disagree widely on Downing's market value.

Portsmouth's Jermain Defoe is on his way out.  Where remains to be seen though.  Defoe would like to rejoin Harry Redknapp at Tottenham, but don't count out Manchester City or Juventus who both have expressed interest.

Look for more action as the EPL transfer window approaches close and the more desparate teams open their pocketbooks further.
