The 2009-10 English Premier League season kicks off on Saturday with a full slate of games over the weekend. The EPL season will start with a bang as 14 of the sides come right back with midweek games as well.
Defending champions Manchester United open play at Old Trafford on Sunday as Birmingham comes calling. Man U has to face the loss of superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid as well as Carlos Tevez to crosstown rivals Manchester City. Throw in big questions in the net as Edwin van der Sar is out injured as well as defensive star Vidic.
Chelsea opens at Stamford Bridge with Hull City. Chelsea looks healthy and should be ready to embark on a long season as one of the favorites for the title. Meanwhile, Hull looks to get off to the good start they did last year before fading in the spring.
Spending machines Manchester City unveils their new look as they travel to Blackburn to face the Rovers. Man City threw money at anyone they could convince to look their way this summer and it will be seen as to how fast they can get the squad to gel. Emmanuel Adebayor looks doubtful with a groin injury and Roque Santa Cruz is also out injured, but City has plenty of attacking options with Robinho, Tevez and Bellamy.
Aston Villa opens at home to Wigan as Luke Young is doubtful for the match while new boys Wolves with American keeper Marcus Hahnemann host West Ham. Clint Dempsey signed an extension at Fulham and will take the field as his team travels to Portsmouth who will be looking to find a goal scorer after Peter Crouch left last week.
Midweek games of note show Liverpool making their home debut against Stoke and both Man U and Chelsea on the road. Manchester United travel to new boys Burnley while Chelsea head to Sunderland.
