Everton continued their run at a Champions League spot claiming their biggest scalp of the season on Sunday as they knocked off Arsenal in grand fashion. Arsenal were just never in it as the Toffees ran out 3-0 victors to move within a single point of the Gunners. If Everton can cash in on their game in hand they'll move into a coveted Champions League place.
Goalkeeper Tim Howard is always great, ageless centerback Sylvain Distin continues to churn out classy performances, Gareth Barry bestrides central midfield with a simplicity and calmness which allows young Ross Barkley and Mirallas to terrorise further forward while Romelu Lukaku provides a cutting edge up front. Everton are a force to be reckoned with for sure.
Arsenal found out first hand on Sunday as they were down 2-0 after the first half hour. Steven Naismith and Lukaku grabbed the goals and once Tim Howard tipped a Podolski strike over the crossbar Everton went comfortably ahead to the halftime break.
The dagger came just after the hour mark when another Everton attack forced an own goal out of Arteta who turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Mirallas. A late Oxlade-Chamberlain ball off the crossbar did nothing but show the despair of a terrible result for Arsenal who are in danger of crashing out of the top four.
Keep up the hot streak and Everton will have only their second Champions League appearance in their history.
