Manchester United worked their late magic once again and found a way to win against Bolton on Saturday despite playing the final 15 minutes with only 10 men. Jonny Evans was sent off with a straight red card when he went studs up on American Stuart Holden who was injured on the play. It was a needless, reckless challenge, and given how thin United's back line was before the game, with John O'Shea, Nemanja Vidic and Rafael all out with injury.
Still, down to 10 men, the Red Devils were creating more chances than Bolton. Nani, in particular, had freed himself of the shackle that was Steinsson and started to launch shots goal-bound, forcing keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen into a good save in the 87th minute. In a cruel twist of fate, a minute later Bolton's keeper spilled a rather routine shot from Nani, and Berbatov was the quickest to pounce, popping the ball into the goal and giving United the 1-0 victory.
Meanwhile, Arsenal lost ground in their race with Man U for the EPL title as they slipped to a poor 2-2 draw with lowly West Brom. They had to make a furious rally just to gain a point as West Brom were up 2-0 with only 20 minutes to play on goals from Stven Reid and Peter Odemwingie.
The Gunners staged a comeback with goals in the 70th minute from Andrey Arshavin and 78th from Robin van Persie, but they could not find a winner. Arsenal sit five points behind Manchester United, but have a game in hand in the title race.
