Norwegian international Brede Hangeland scored as Fulham upset Arsenal 1-0 at Craven Cottage on Saturday. Dutch forward Robin Van Persie should have handed the Gunners an early lead but shot wide from in front of the goal. Fulham took the lead a minute later when Hangeland slid in past flat-footed defenders to fire in Jimmy Bullard's low corner.
Prolific striker Emmanuel Adebayor hit the post from the centre of penalty area two minutes later, but the Cottagers were full value for their 1-0 lead at half-time. Arsenal pushed for an equaliser in the second-half but were denied by Hangeland and Aaron Hughes standing firm in the middle of the park, cutting down space with quick challenges. The Gunners had a late penalty shout when Adebayor went down in the box, but referee Martin Atkinson rightly waved play on as Fulham held on for only their second home win against Arsenal in the eighth Premier League meetings.
