England grabbed their place in the 2010 World Cup with a 5-1 thrashing of Croatia Wednesday. It was never a match as a determined England side was all over Croatia from the opening whistle. The surprise start of Aaron Lennon brought a pace the Croatians weren't prepared for as Lennon raced ahead earning a penalty in just the 7th minute of play. Frank Lampard put it home and England were on their way.
Just 11 minutes later Lennon was on the rampage again. This time getting forward and delivering a perfect cross for Steven Gerrard to head home. The 2-0 lead would hold into the 2nd half where England would put the match away.
Goals in the 59th and 66th again from Lampard and Gerrard ended any drama. Croatia grabbed some consolation from Eduardo in the 73rd, but Wayne Rooney answered right back for the 5-1 England final.
Elsewhere, Spain also booked passage with a 3-0 win over Estonia behind goals from Fabregas, Cazorla and Mata.
