The Ivory Coast suffered a terrible blow as they lost star striker Didier Drogba to a broken arm. Word is he will miss the entire World Cup. Didier Drogba suffered the injury in a friendly with Japan. The 32-year-old Drogba was taken off 15 minutes into Ivory Coast's 2-0 win over Japan after a high challenge by Japan defender Tanaka. He was then rushed to a hospital. Drogba was a dominating force in England last season scoring 29 goals in 32 Premier League matches leading Chelsea to the title over Manchester United.
The Ivory Coast has serious ideas of making a long run in the World Cup, but this injury throws a serious blow to their chances as they must survive a tough group with Brazil and Portugal. Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson did not blame Tanaka for the injury. "It wasn't bad or stupid. He didn't want to hurt anyone," the Swedish coach said. "Football is a game of contact."
The Drogba injury comes on the heels of another major Africa injury blow last week when Michael Essien was ruled out from the Ghana squad due to injury.
