The four semifinal berths for Dallas Cup XXXI Super Group are up for grabs on Wednesday as group play concludes. Unfortunately the forecast is for 35mph plus winds for the day and nothing ruins a good soccer match more than a wild wind. The teams that keep it on the ground and can defend against the wind the best will be successful.
Bracket A -
With Chelsea slipping up on Monday against Alajuelense of Costa Rica, CF Monterrey controls the bracket heading into the final day. Chelsea does have a chance though as they will play CF Monterrey at 2pm. Chelsea must win by at least two goals to jump over CF Monterrey. Alajuelense is still alive but will need at least a five goal win over FC Dallas who is alread eliminated after two losses.
Bracket B -
This group will be decided on Wednesday in the feature match at Pizza Hut Park. Chivas of Mexico will face off against Cruzeiro of Brazil. Both teams have won their opening two games, but Chivas holds a one goal lead in differential so a tie will put them through to the semifinals.
Bracket C -
This group is wide open as Japan 91/92 national team, Tottenham and Tigres are all well alive. The Dallas Texans lost their first two and are eliminated. Tottenham and Tigres play each other at noon while Japan has the clear advantage playing the winless Texans at 4:00.
Bracket D -
The Mexico 91/92 national squad controls this group with two tight wins. They face the winless Vancouver Whitecaps only needing a draw to advance to the semifinals. The USA faces Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany. Both teams are alive with a win and a Mexico slipup.
