The 2nd day of Dallas Cup XXIX is in the books and the weather held. Sunday's darlings Andromeda 90 fell flat in a loss to Leicester City of England while Benfica of Portugal took control of their group with a solid win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
Super Group --
After Sunday's impressive win over defending champions Sao Paolo FC of Brazil, Andromeda 90 layed an egg in a 1-0 loss to Leicester City of England. The loss allowed CF Monterrey to take control of Group A as they defeated Sao Paolo 1-0, eliminating the defending champions. Andromeda can still win Group A if they defeat CF Monterrey on Wednesday. In Group B play, Liverpool pretty much has the group won unless Ryutsu Keizai Kashiwa of Japan can beat them by 5 or more goals on Wednesday. Otherwise Liverpool goes through to the semifinals. Benfica has already clinched Group C after winning their first two matches. The wildcard will most likely come from Leicester City, Andromeda, Tigres or Ryutsu with my money going towards Tigres.
Semifinal projections: CF Monterrey - Tigres & Liverpool - Benfica
Under 19 --
Dallas Texans Red 90 earned their 2nd win of the tournament as they knocked off Orlando FC 2-0 and took control of Bracket C. Solar looks strong in Bracket D with 2 wins but still could face a challenge from Tulsa SC for the group. Last year's finalist IMG Academy is in trouble after an opening draw.
Under 17 --
Top seeds Tigres is showing their class after notching a pair of wins. Otherwise, the other groups are wide open as #4 ranked Andromeda 91 slipped up with a scoreless draw with Strikers FC. #12 San Diego Surf opened with a win.
Under 16 --
All the big boys are unbeaten as Sereno, Lonestar, Dallas Texans and FC Barcelona all won Monday. Solar slipped up with a draw leaving an opening in Group C. Look for the big matchup Tuesday as #1 Lonestar faces #4 FC Barcelona in group play.
Under 15 --
CF Monterrey looks safe in group A after a pair of wins, while the same can be said for FC Groningen of Holland in group B. The big surprise so far is the poor showing from #5 ranked Solar Red which has lost both matches so far and has been eliminated. The #7 New York Red Bull opened with an impressive 3-0 win over Solar Red.
Under 14 --
Solar 94 looks to be in good shape in group d after two opening wins and the same can be said of Dallas Texans 94 in group E. #2 ranked NJSA Gunners of New Jersey rolled to a 3-0 win over the Bermuda U13 National team and #6 Santa Clara Sporting also won.
Under 13 --
Southampton FC of England and Dallas Texans 95 both have a pair of wins thus far. FC Barcelona opened with an impressive 2-0 win over CFI Guadalajara from Mexico.
