The tournament favourites laid an egg on Friday night at Pizza Hut Park as they crashed out of Dallas Cup XXXII suffering a 2-0 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. Arsenal lost starter Luke Freeman to an injury in warmups and things never got better for the English side.
Arsenal were on the backfoot right from the opening kickoff as a turnover in the back was almost punished in the opening minute of play. The German side was organized and quick to pressure Arsenal into mistakes. Frankfurt were pushing forward and Arsenal were hanging on as Arsenal keeper Martinez was called into action on several occasions.
Eintracht Frankfurt took the lead on a lightning counter. Marcus Schmidt got loose down the right side and sent a perfect cross for Okan Durci to knock home from close range. Frimpong nearly tied the match for Arsenal just before the break, but his shot zipped just wide.
Arsenal made changes at halftime and they were able to push for the tying goal. It was just not to be their night though and a late goal from Dustin Ernst sealed the deal as Eintracht Frankfurt advanced to the Dallas Cup XXXII final on Sunday.
The other semifinal was not close as Tigres ran all over FC Dallas winning 5-0. The home crowd couldn't help FC Dallas in this one as Tigres dominated every phase of play as FC Dallas had no answers. Four different Tigres players notched goals with Genaro Castillo grabbing two. It will be quite a final as the high flying Tigres attack tries to break down the solid German defense.
