Sunday's Dallas Cup XXXI Super Group final will pit Cruzeiro of Brazil against CF Monterrey of Mexico. Cruzeiro will be looking to extend the Brazilian dominance at Dallas Cup as teams from the South American country have won 9 of the past 15 Dallas Cup Super Group titles.
Cruzeiro advanced to the championship match thanks to their semifinal victory over Tottenham Hotspur of England by a 3-1 score. The Brazilians are loaded with speed and skill and will be clear favorites to win the final on Sunday at Pizza Hut Park.
CF Monterrey advanced under very different circumstances. It is not very often that the team that holds 70% of the possession in a soccer game loses that match 3-1, but that is just how it went in the second semifinal Friday night. The Mexico 91/92 National Team held tons of possession but never earned anthing to show for it. CF Monterrey did a wonderful job of defending as a team and keeping Mexico in wide and non-dangerous areas of the field. After leading 1-0 at halftime, CF Monterrey put the game away with a pair of goals in the opening 20 minutes of the second half. They'll need the same discipline and team defending if they are to defeat Cruzeiro in the final. Mexico grabbed their goal in injury time to spoil the shutout.
