The Columbus Crew Jrs claimed the McGuire Cup with an intense 1-0 victory over FC Delco at the USYSA National Championships. Despite thunderstorms and rain over 3,500 fans were on hand for the U19 championship match as Columbus Crew Jrs were the first MLS side to make a finals appearance and FC Delco brought an undefeated record into the match.
Tyler Pollack notched the game's only goal in the 36th minute and it would stand up the entire night. Columbus possessed the ball well in the 2nd half and were clearly the better team on the night. If Pollack had more speed he would have scored a couple of more in the 2nd half but he was unable to get to a pair of perfect crosses from Joseph Haught in the final 15 minutes of play. FC Delco did not go down without a fight though as they scratched and clawed to find the tying goal. They almost found it twice late on, but had a cross slip through the six yard box and another ball cleared off the line in injury time.
The Golden Glove Award went to the Crew Jrs keeper Justin Luthy while the Golden Ball went to Brian Forgue of FC Delco. In other finals matches, Baltimore Bays claimed the U15 title with a 2-1 overtime victory against Albion from Cal South. Christian Porras notched the winner in the extra frame.
