The group stages are complete and the knockout phases are ready to begin at Copa America 2011 in Argentina. The quarterfinal matchups are all set with the big boys all getting through the group stages.
Of course, some made it through easier than others. Most notable has been the lackluster performance of the host Argentina who have been booed off the field earlier. They rose to the occasion in their last group match winning 3-0 over a soft Costa Rica side to gain passage into the quarterfinals. Sergio Aguero scored twice in the win, but still absent has been the dominant form of Lionel Messi who is becoming legendary for his very average play for his country.
Argentina will face a very solid Uruguay side in the next round in what should be a fascinating matchup. Uruguay advanced thanks to their 1-0 win over Mexico in their final group game.
Brazil put together their best effort so far at Copa America yesterday as they dispatched Ecuador 4-2 behind the stellar play of Neymar and Pato. Brazil will face Paraguay in the quarterfinals. Paraguay slipped through despite tying all three games.
Colombia won Group A in fine fashion and look to be a significant challenger to win the title. They'll face off against Peru next.
Colombia - Peru
Argentina - Uruguay
Brazil - Paraguay
Chile - Venezuela
