The US squad for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup was unveiled by head coach Bob Bradley today. The 23 man team will compete from June 14-28 in South Africa as a warmup for the 2010 World Cup. The Americans will face Italy, Brazil and Egypt in a very challenging group.
It is a very strong squad the US will be taking as stars such as Tim Howard, Landon Donovan, Michael Bradley and Gooch Onyewu will be on hand. “The FIFA Confederations Cup is a great opportunity to play against top level competition and gain further experience competing in tough games,” said Bradley, who holds a 25-9-4 record since being named head coach in 2007. “Equally important is the chance for our team to experience the environment in South Africa, everything from travel to food to weather. We believe the experience will be invaluable if we qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.”
The main omissions from the squad were Brian Ching and Frankie Hedjuk both out injured.
