The Big Ten mens soccer programs have served notice that they will be national contenders this year. Several programs are off to great starts after the first two weekends as evidenced by having 4 teams in the Soccermogul Top 30.
Indiana Hoosiers -
Indiana has survived a daunting opening two weekends to remain unbeaten and ranked #2 in the Soccermogul poll. An impressive win over #5 UCLA and a solid draw with #8 Maryland leave the Hoosiers 3-0-1 on the young season.
Northwestern University -
One of the surprises of last season have begun right where they left off. Following last year's run to the Elite 8, Northwestern has opened the season with 3 wins and a draw to achieve a #13 Soccermogul ranking. The conference opener at Ohio State looms large in a couple of weeks.
Ohio State -
A solid win over #17 West Virginia has led Ohio State to a 3-0-1 start and a #24 ranking. A huge game at #5 UCLA is on tap for Friday night.
Michigan -
The Wolverines move into the poll at #27 after sweeping their first 4 games and winning the Cal State Fullerton Tourney last weekend. A tough game with Kentucky looms on Friday.
Michigan State -
The team is off to a 4-0 start on the season and is looking to be a dark horse in the Big Ten this season.
Penn State -
Off to a tough start, but there is talent in the program. Look for them to be a factor when conference play starts.
Wisconsin -
Off to a good start with a win over #15 California. Their only loss thus far is to Tulsa. They face upstarts #25 Gonzaga this weekend.
