Big East soccer is underway and there are a few surprises in the early going. Notre Dame is not a surprise though as they have jumped out to an early lead in the blue division sitting as the only team to win both their opening league matches. Notre Dame knocked off St Johns and Providence to open play. A difficult trip to #3 Connecticut looms and could decide the blue division champion.
UConn were held to a draw at Marquette who sit even with UConn in 2nd place with a four points so far. Providence sits in last place as the only blue division school to lose both Big East matches.
The red division sports three squads sitting a perfect 2-0 so far. Louisville, Villanove and Cincinnati all swept their two openers. Louisville is 7-0-2 on th year and has climbed all the way to #6 in the national rankings. Next weekend sports a huge matchup as Louisville travels to Cincinnati.
Don't count out South Florida in the red division. Despite getting crushed at Connecticut last week, USF has a ton of talent and will be a factor before the season ends. Surprisingly, #18 St Johns dropped both their two Big East matches and sit in a huge hole at the bottom of the division. They'll need to bounce back in home games with Cincinnati and Syracuse looming.
