Several mouthwatering matchups dot the to opening weekend of the 2011 college soccer season. Teams are working out the kinks and getting their legs under them as they try to find their identities this fall. Alot of the big programs are jumping right in feet first though as they'll take to the field against powerful opponents.
The big game for Friday pits #4 Maryland hosting St Johns of the Big East. Could be a preview of a potential NCAA Tournament matchup there. UNC Greensboro will look for the upset as #23 Duke comes calling. While #22 Virginia battles West Virginia. Another solid rivalry shows Kentucky playing Dayton in what is always a contentious battle.
Saturday has the defending national champions Akron getting their season started in what should be an easy game against Cleveland State. Meanwhile, preseason #1 Louisville welcomes #6 UCLA to town in the most anticipated game of the opening weekend.
Other solid games on tap for Saturday include #17 Indiana facing #12 Notre Dame and west coast powers Santa Clara hosting Stanford.
