American Clint Dempsey scored on each side of halftime to lift Fulham to a 2-0 home win over Stoke Saturday and a valuable three points in the EPL standings. The first goal was typical Clint Dempsey. Hard work and getting into a great spot. After teammate Damien Duff had rattled the crossbar minutes earlier, Dempsey made a hard near post run and slid home a low cross to open the scoring.
In the second half a great pass found a racing Dempsey behind the Stoke defense. A wonderful first touch brought the ball down and then he was tackled down from behind by Ryan Shawcross. Fulham earned a penalty kick an Shawcross earned a straight red card. Dempsey fired home the spot kick ad the match was effectively over from there.
The win pushes Fulham up into 14th place in the EPL standings and moves them a bit clearer from the relegation zone danger.
