Classy Spurs roll on beating Everton

Classy Spurs roll on beating Everton
Tottenham have officially thrown their names into the EPL title race.  What a few weeks ago looked like a Manchester spring has turned into a three horse race.

Chelsea has been left in the dust.  So too have Liverpool and Arsenal.  Only Tottenham have resisted being dropped.  In fact, they have reeled in the two Manchester sides and now sit even with Manchester United in 2nd place only three points behind leaders Man City.

On Wednesday night in London it was business as usual as Spurs looked like a squad on a mission.  Everytime they have a chance to gain on the leaders they have jumped the opportunity.  Everton were the latest victims.

After some half-chances the goal would come on the half hour mark out of really nothing.  A long ball from Assou-Ekotto to Aaron Lennon got by Baines who did poorly on the challenge.  Lennon raced into the box and fired a low shot through three Everton defenders.  Tim Howard was wrong footed and could do nothing as the ball rolled into the net.

The second half saw a bit of Everton push, but nothing to really trouble Brad Friedel in the Spurs goal.  Then came the dagger.  Assou-Ekotto picked up a ball and let fire a wicked strike from 30 yards distance.  The swerving missile left Tim Howard no chance and Spurs were safely ahead 2-0.

Everton had a pretty legitimate penalty call waved away late on, but the match clearly belonged to Tottenham.  With another home match on the weekend Spurs could find themselves in a grand position for the following weekend's showdown with leaders Manchester City.
