Classy Arsenal dispatched FC Porto in fine fashion 5-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2010 Champions League. After falling 2-1 weeks ago in Portugal, Arsenal came home with work to do. they got about it right from the opening whistle as Porto were played off the pitch for the most part.
Nicklas Bendtner was the man on the spot in the opening half as he atoned for several misses on the weekend by notching goals in the 9th and 25th minutes to send Arsenal on their way. The second half would be just like the first half as it was mostly one way traffic. Two quick goals on the hour mark put the match away as Nasri scored in the 63rd and Eboue in the 66th. Nicklas Bendtner would get his hat trick in the 90th putting home a penalty kick. The 5-0 result put Arsenal through on 6-2 aggregate where they will await the results of the remaining matches and their quarterfinal opponent.
In the other Champions League game on the day, Fiorentina and Bayern Munich put on quite a show in Italy. Bayern Munich took the opening leg 2-1 in Germany leaving Fiorentina work to do on home soil. Fiorentina looked to be on their way as they held a 2-0 lead and 3-2 aggregate lead with only 30 minutes to play. Then came the Bayern fightback.
Mark Van Bommel drew the aggregate level on three for the Germans, but Stevan Jovetic put Fiorentina right back in front four minutes later. Arjen Robben would shock the home crowd with a wonderful long range strike to even the aggregate once again at four, but Bayern would take the advantage and advance on away goals.
