Both Manchester City and Manchester United have been anything but impressive thus far in their US preseason tours limping along with less than stellar results. Sure it is only preseason, but typically these squads have rarely struggled against MLS competition in the past.
Manchester United dropped a 2-1 decision to a Kansas City Wizards team that had to play almost an hour with 10 men due to a Jimmy Conrad red card. Goals by Davy Arnaud and Kei Kamara sent the Wizards to victory as Manchester United were unable to score with the advantage. Next up for United is a clash with the MLS All Stars in Houston.
Meanwhile, Manchester City was falling to New York Red Bull and Thierry Henry, who showed he is going to have an immediate impact in the MLS. A great strike from Dane Richards provided the winner for Red Bull. Maybe City and coach Roberto Mancini should start worrying more about preparing the squad they have rather than trying to buy any European star with a pulse? Manchester City were crunched 2-0 by Sporting Lisbon to open the mini tournament in New York.
