Chivas USA have far and away been the class of MLS 2009. They have a whopping 22 points from 9 matches and have only been beaten once all year. The next closest MLS squads are DC United and Seattle on only 14 points thus far. Today Chivas USA will host the Eastern Conference leaders DC United who are on a 6 game unbeaten streak.
Chivas USA has six shutouts on the season behind veteran goalkeeper Zach Thorton and only have allowed three goals in nine matches. If there can be any concern it would be the lack of goalscoring. Chivas USA only have 12 goals in their 9 matches. If the defense ever starts to fail they'll need more goals for sure. Paulo Nagamura currently leads the squad with 3 goals on the season. Amazingly enough for a team with a 7-1-1 record, they have been outshot on the season 100-87.
The squad will enter into SuperLiga play on June 20th as they are in Group A of the competition along with the Chicago Fire, San Luis and Tigres of Mexico.
