Chelsea took the 2009-2010 English Premier League title in style Sunday afternoon as they destroyed Wigan 8-0 at Stamford Bridge. The result was never in doubt as Chelsea bossed the match from the opening whistle and it only took six minutes to get on the board. Nicolas Anelka fired home a flick from Malouda and Chelsea were on their way.
Things went from bad to worse for Wigan at the half hour mark when Gary Caldwell was sent off for a foul in the box. Lampard scored the penalty and the match was all but over at that point. Didier Drogba still wanted to put his stamp on the match though and over the next hour he would notch a hat trick. He also claimed the Golden Boot as he finished the year with 29 EPL goals.
The final score would end 8-0 for Chelsea and mark the fourth game this season in which the champions notched over seven goals in a game. The 103 goals scored was the most since Manchester United in 2000. Next up for Chelsea is a matchup with Portsmouth for the FA Cup. The Blues will become only the seventh team in the history of the game to win both competitions if they can win at Wembley next week.
