Chelsea are making it known they are intent on repeating as EPL champions. Last week they went 6-0 over West Brom and today the unlucky victims were Wigan who were coming off an embarassing 4-0 loss to Blackpool. Wigan started on the front foot getting the better of the attacks in the opening 20 minutes. The only thing Chelsea were able to claim were a handful of close offside calls as Wigan held a high line.
With Wigan having nothing to show for the opening forays, the Chelsea class began to take over. In the 34th minute Chelsea would find the net on basically their first attack into the Wigan area. A lazy Wigan defense left Malouda to stroll in unmarked and tap in a rebound for the opener. That would be the only goal of the first half and Wigan should have just stayed in the locker room rather than coming out for the second.
It was all one way traffic after the break. Didier Drogba, the usual scorer, played the role of provider dealing out 3 assists in the final 45 minutes. Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou both scored twice and sub Yossi Banayoun added the 6th.
Chelsea are in dominating form with a nasty 12-0 differential from only two matches. Wigan, on the other hand, are reeling. Booed off the pitch, they now face a tricky Carling Cup match away to Hartlepool at midweek before having to travel to powerful Tottenham next weekend.
