Chelsea cruise past Inter Milan 2-0

Chelsea cruise past Inter Milan 2-0
A monster crowd of over 81,000 filled the Rose Bowl to watch Chelsea dominate Inter Milan 2-0 behind a goal from Didier Drogba and a penalty from Frank Lampard.  The game was full of story lines.  Two European rivals.  Former Chelsea outspoken coach Jose Mourinho no with Inter.  It was a friendly only in name.  Both sides fought for every ball and there were many hard fouls not usually seen in a preseason match such as this.  But on the field Chelsea were clearly the better squad dominating every phase of the match.

Didier Drogba put Chelsea on top in the 11th minute when he turned and fired a shot from outside the box.  The ball took a slight deflection and found the far corner of the net for the lead.  After the goal, Chelsea would dominate possession and chances as Inter seemed out of sorts and unable to keep the ball.

Other than an Inter chance from Diego Milito right at the beginning of the second half it was much the same after the break.  Five minutes in Daniel Sturridge got deep into the Inter box and tried to send a ball to the backpost.  Ivan Cordoba's hand got in the way and the referee awarded Chelsea a penalty kick.  Frank Lampard stepped up and cooly slotted it home for the 2-0 lead.  Lots of subs and more Chelsea quality closed out the match as Inter never made a dent.

Chelsea next heads for a Friday match with AC Milan on Friday.
