European giants Manchester United and Barcelona won away matches and look comfortable to advance to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.
Manchester United 2 Roma 0
Manchester United planted one foot firmly in the Champions League semifinals after a resounding 2-0 win in Rome. A superb first half header from Ronaldo in the 39th minute gave United a halftime lead. Roma came out strong and put pressure early in the 2nd half, but Manchester regained control behind a 66th minute tap in from Wayne Rooney. The 2 away goals give the English side a commanding league heading home for the return match. If they progress as expected, then a mouthwatering semi-final clash with Barcelona should await after the Catalans beat Schalke 1-0 in Germany thanks to Bojan Krkic.
Barcelona 1 Schalke 0
Barcelona set the tone early as they visited German side Schalke in their Champions League quarterfinal match. A 12th minute goal from Bojan Krkic held up giving the Spanish powers a solid advantage heading home for the return leg. On the horizon looms a huge semifinal matchup with Manchester United if both sides take care of business in their next home matches.
