European giants Manchester United and Barcelona won away matches and look comfortable to advance to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.

Manchester United planted one foot firmly in the Champions League semifinals after a resounding 2-0 win in Rome. A superb first half header from Ronaldo in the 39th minute gave United a halftime lead. Roma came out strong and put pressure early in the 2nd half, but Manchester regained control behind a 66th minute tap in from Wayne Rooney. The 2 away goals give the English side a commanding league heading home for the return match. If they progress as expected, then a mouthwatering semi-final clash with Barcelona should await after the Catalans beat Schalke 1-0 in Germany thanks to Bojan Krkic.

Barcelona set the tone early as they visited German side Schalke in their Champions League quarterfinal match. A 12th minute goal from Bojan Krkic held up giving the Spanish powers a solid advantage heading home for the return leg. On the horizon looms a huge semifinal matchup with Manchester United if both sides take care of business in their next home matches.
