The matchup everyone was looking for has now been booked as both Manchester United and Barcelona took care of home fixtures on Wednesday evening. Now the world will focus on a dream semifinal clash between the European giants.
Manchester United rested several regulars as they had a 2 goal lead from the first leg in Italy. Roma came out the aggressors and had several chances in a wide open first half. A questionable penalty gave Roma a chance, but Daniele De Rossi put the ball a mile over in his poorly taken attempt. The second half was much the same as both teams created opportunites, but there was still no goal until Carlos Tevez broke through in the 70th minute to give Manchester United a 3 goal aggregate advantage. In Barcelona, it was much the same story as in England as Schalke came out strong pressuring the Spanish, but a late first half goal from Yaya Toure ended the drama.
So the Champions League semifinals are all set as 4 English sides join Barcelona vying for the prestigous title. Chelsea will meet Liverpool and Manchester United will face off against Barcelona.
